My husband, Dennis, and I were at a gathering of Christian friends last night. Most of them were “old” friends. You know what I mean. We are truly getting old, but these were long-time, dear friends. We were in the home of a Pastor and his wife and were discussing our beliefs and how Christ is working in all our lives. We were talking about how blessed we truly are. It was a very special time. The Holy Spirit was…..
As I was spending my quiet time with the Lord this morning, I read this scripture: 2 Corinthians 5: 17 Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: The old has gone, the new is here! Wow! What a great thought to start your day. We can be new creations in Christ. We spend so much time each morning getting ready for the world. We shower, primp and put on our nice clothes and head out the door. …..
If you have even been around small children they are constantly asking “Why?” Why is the grass green? Why can birds fly and I can’t? Why can’t I jump off the roof? Their little minds are in constant motion. They have so much to learn. I firmly believe our curiosity doesn’t wane as we age. There are still so many unanswered questions. We are continually searching for answers and meaning in our daily life. There are thousands of self-help books…..
I’m sure you’ve heard the term “Agape Love”. Do you know what it means? You know how loosely we throw the word “love” around today. We say we love ice cream, we love our spouses and children and we love God. Can that “love” be the same word? The Greeks had four terms for love. They use the term philia for brotherly love (as in Philadelphia). Another term is eros which I’m sure you can surmise is erotic love between…..
I love the story of Joseph. He was the eleventh son of Jacob and was his father’s favorite. He was a son of Jacob’s old age and his mother was Rachel, Jacob’s true love. Because his father doted on him and even gave him a coat of many colors, his brothers despised him. You can imagine that Joseph was probably pretty spoiled. He even taunted his brothers with his dreams of them bowing down to him. This didn’t help matters…..
My heart is broken with all the tragedies of the past weeks. How can there possibly be so much hate in this glorious world our Creator has made? We know this isn’t God’s plan. He created Adam and Eve and placed them in the Garden of Eden. That heaven on earth. I love the scripture where He says he walked with them in the cool of the day. Can you imagine literally walking with God right beside you? Can…..
I love rainy days. I even love to hear the rolling thunder. When Dennis and I attended Stephen F. Austin University in Nacogdoches, I had never heard thunder like that. The thunder is different in the piney forests. It seemed it would never end but it was a beautiful sound. This makes me think of the song, How Great Thou Art and how it speaks of the rolling thunder that only our Great God can create. All creation is filled…..
I hope you have read Jesus’ parable of The Faith of a Mustard Seed. If not, you can read it in Matthew 17:20. I remember when I was a little girl some of my friends had necklaces with a mustard seed encased in a glass ball about the size of a marble. They had a metal band around them and were fastened around your neck with a black velvet ribbon. I thought they were beautiful (especially the black velvet ribbon)…..
