Do you remember singing This Little Light of Mine when you were a child? Remember how we would waive our fingers in the air to let our light shine? I pray you grew up with this song because that means you were raised in the church and you know and love the Lord.
It is funny how children’s playful Christian songs can have such intense spiritual meaning. These words are so profound they could have been written by Moses or David! The simplicity of the song almost makes you miss the true meaning.
Jesus tells us in John 8:12, “Then Jesus spoke to them again, saying, “I am the light of the world. He who follows Me shall not walk in darkness, but have the light of life.”
In John 15:5, Jesus also says, “I am the vine, you are the branches. He who abides in Me, and I in him bears much fruit; for without Me you can do nothing.
Do you get it? Jesus is the light of the world and He abides in us! That means that His light is inside us just waiting for us to trust Him enough to let it shine through all the darkness in the world.
We already have the light. We have to make the decision to waive our fingers in the air and let that light shine into all the world. You don’t think you can? You don’t know the Bible well enough to go proclaiming the Word?
Jesus just told us that if we abide in Him we will bear much fruit, and most importantly, with Him we can do all things. Trust in Him. He promises He will give you the words to say. Let’s all let our lights shine so brightly that Satan is blinded. Praise God!
