If you watch TV and the commercials, you will never be satisfied. You will never be as attractive as the people on TV. You will never have as big a house as the rich and famous. You will never have the most expensive and fastest car. So what satisfies us?
If you read magazines, you will never be thin enough. Your life will not come close to the stars who have become our heroes.
The tragedy is that God is such a Good God. He has blessed us beyond our imagination. If you live in America you are among the richest people in the world. So, why is that we are never satisfied?
Even if you have the biggest, most beautiful home, the fastest most expensive car and everything that goes with it, it doesn’t guarantee satisfaction. It seems we always want more. When John Rockefeller was asked how much money was enough, he replied, “Just a little bit more.” Can you imagine?
The reason we are not satisfied with material things is that God did not design us that way. He designed us for a relationship with Him and that is the only way we can attain true satisfaction.
The things of this world are fleeting. Besides that, you can’t take it with you. I’ve never seen a U-Haul behind a hearse. It is such a shame that so many people spend their entire lives striving for the material things rather the Spiritual.
I’m a child of the 60’s and this makes me think of the old Rolling Stones song, I Can’t Get No Satisfaction. If you listen to the words, they were pretty right-on.
The only true joy is the joy of the Lord. I implore you to spend more time with Him and in His Word. You will discover the true meaning of pure joy.
