Unfortunately we live in a day when someone knocks on your door our first thought is concern. Is it someone selling something or could it be a thief? We are usually very cautious going to the door.
Revelation 3:20 tell us that Jesus is knocking at our door. “Here I am! I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in and eat with him, and he with me.”
This scripture has a lot deeper meaning than we realize. Not only is Jesus asking to come into our hearts, but He says He will eat with us and us with Him. In the culture of that day eating with someone had a significant meaning. It meant that you were in close fellowship. The guest was highly regarded and it was an honor to eat with someone.
This verse tells us that Jesus wants a personal relationship with us. He wants to commune with us and fellowship with us. How awesome is that? The God of the Universe wants to be our friend.
In the Gospel of John He also tells us that He calls us friend. Do you think of Jesus as your friend – someone you can be close to and depend on? What a wonderful thought.
When life’s trials get you down, don’t worry and feel sorry for yourself. Jesus is right there. He says He will be with us until the end of the age. He will never fail us. We can depend on Him.
Jesus stands at the door and knocks. Our part is to open the door and let Him into our hearts. Spend time in prayer today and ask Him in. Ask Him to come into your life and be your friend. There is nothing He wants more. He wants to be there for us in all circumstances. He wants to guide and protect us. Thank You, Jesus.
