Have you ever spent much time reading and studying the Psalms? They are filled with words of wisdom. They are filled with praises to God for His goodness and mercy. God is a forgiving God. Spend time with the Psalms, they will lift you up.
Most of the Psalms were written by David, one of my heroes of the Bible. He was just a boy when God called him to be the King of Israel. He spent years being chased by King Saul who wanted to kill him to keep him from taking over the kingdom. He was constantly on the run for his life and lived in caves. At one point, he had an opportunity to kill Saul but he could not. He said, “Who am I to take the life of God’s anointed?”
David was just a man and, at times, made terrible sinful choices. He had an affair with Bathsheba and even had her husband killed in battle so that he could cover up her pregnancy by him. David repented in Psalm 51. It is a beautiful read full of heartfelt sorrow for his sin. I hope you will read it.
Even after all this, God called David “a man after God’s own heart”. Can you imagine God saying that about you?
We are all sinners – some of us worse than others but, in God’s eyes any sin is a terrible sin. That is why we need to spend time in His word to know His heart. We need to seek His guidance and ask His forgiveness daily. We need to praise Him for being our loving, merciful Father who forgives all sin.
Spend time today surveying your life. Repent and pray and ask God to forgive those sins. He will because He loved the world so much that He sent His only Son to die for sins.
