We all grew up learning and memorizing the 10 Commandments. I was so relieved when the first one said that we should have no others gods before Him. I knew I would never do that. It was the other nine I had to worry about.
As I matured I realized what this commandment meant. I realized how many, many gods I had placed before Him. We can do that without even realizing it. What about your pride? Do you place yourself above God when you are prideful? I pray daily for forgiveness and conviction for the sins I don’t even realize I commit.
“A new commandment I give you. Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another. By this all men will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another.”
This may very well be the hardest of commandments to follow. There are so many people who are “unlovely”. There are those who know what buttons to push to bring us to anger and sin. There are even those who are just plain mean.
Jesus doesn’t say to pick and choose whom we should love. He says to love one another. That pretty much encompasses everyone on earth.
He even makes it harder because He says that all men will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another. Every time we don’t act in love or we lash out to someone it shows the world what kind if disciples we are.
Father, I pray that you will give me the heart and eyes of Jesus for everyone. Let me not be prideful and think I am better than they. Help me to show the love of Christ in all I do. Let everything I do today bring you glory.
