Many of my prayers are asking God to show me His will for my life. There are so many uncertainties and choices. Should I do this or not? Very rarely do I get a definitive “yes or no” from God.
I think He wants us to continue in prayer and petition seeking His will. God is not in a hurry as we are. He relishes the time we spend with Him seeking His will.
Paul thought he was doing the right thing when he was persecuting Christians. He was a devout Jew – a Pharisee in fact. He thought he was about as close to God as you can get because he was following all the law.
We see in Acts 9 that he is methodically rounding up Christians and having them thrown in prison. He was so steeped in his religion that he thought he was doing what God wanted him to do.
Jesus appeared to Paul on the road to Damascus and said,
“Saul, Saul, why do you persecute me? Who are you, Lord? Saul asked. “I am Jesus who you are persecuting,” he replied. “Now get up and go into the city and you will be told what you must do.”
Now, this was a definitive answer. Saul, or Paul, he had had an encounter with the risen Lord Jesus Christ. His life was changed forever. He became one of the most stalwart Christians and preached the gospel throughout Asia to the gentiles. He wrote almost two-thirds of the New Testament.
So, I implore you to continue praying for God’s will in your life. He may not appear to you and knock you off your horse, but He usually answers in a subtle way. When you are in His will you know it. You are filled with joy and peace.
