Everyone wants to be exceptional at something. We all strive to hear that we are exceptional. It is something that drives everyone. Our self-esteem is very important. We want to count for something in life. Are you exceptional?
In Mark 9 the disciples are arguing about which of them is the greatest. When Jesus asked them about it, they were quiet because they knew what they had done was wrong.
Jesus tells them in verse 35: Sitting down, Jesus called the Twelve and said, “Anyone who wants to be first must be the very last, and the servant of all.”
This is the pattern of Jesus life. He emptied Himself of His royal throne and became a man to serve mankind. He expects the same from us. We are here to serve others. It’s not about us but about Christ. We are not the center of the universe, Christ is.
We have to remember that it was by the grace of God that He sent His Son and as recipients of that grace we have the responsibility to tell others. We have to put others first and above ourselves.
In doing this we become exceptional in God’s eyes. God uses the least and makes them great if we will follow Him. When Jesus called the disciples He didn’t call the High Priest or Rabbis, He called the lowly men and taught them to be great.
If we follow Jesus’ lead, He can use us mightily.
I pray that you will seek His will for your life. I pray you will become a servant to all. You can be the hands and feet of Christ to someone who needs to feel the love of Christ. Let God use you to be His servant. You will receive blessings beyond your imagination in doing so.
