I am always amazed that the Disciples who spent three years with Jesus didn’t always understand what He was telling them. They were with Him every waking minute and saw and heard first-hand all that He did. He would even speak with them alone and explain things to them.
While many of the things He said to them seemed vague, He did tell them on more than one occasion that He would have to die at the hands of the authorities and be buried and raised again on the third day.
Unfortunately, we can close our ears to things which are not what we want to hear. They believed Jesus was the Messiah and that He would establish His Kingdom on earth and it would have no end. When He was crucified and buried the disciples were in utter dismay. Had they just thrown away three years of their life following this man they thought was the Messiah? What was going on? His Kingdom was to be eternal.
Jesus knows us better than we know ourselves. He also told them in John 14:25 “But the Counselor, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name will teach you all things and will remind you of everything I have said to you.”
When you are reading your Bible and can’t understand what it is saying, call upon the Holy Spirit to help you. He will teach you all things.
On Pentecost when the disciples received the Holy Spirt everything became clear to them. They understood that Jesus had come to die for our sins and must suffer the cross for us to have salvation. Pray for the Holy Spirit to fill you with knowledge and understanding. Pray, “Come Holy Spirit.”
