I hope you have read Jesus’ parable of The Faith of a Mustard Seed. If not, you can read it in Matthew 17:20.
I remember when I was a little girl some of my friends had necklaces with a mustard seed encased in a glass ball about the size of a marble. They had a metal band around them and were fastened around your neck with a black velvet ribbon. I thought they were beautiful (especially the black velvet ribbon) but had no idea what they meant.
Now that I’m older (much older!) I know the meaning. Do you have any idea how tiny a mustard seed is? It is no bigger than a BB and yet it can produce a magnificent tree as tall as 9 feet. Jesus speaks of the birds perching in them.
How can that be? How can something so tiny grow to such height? I think it would take a lot of fertilizer and care, don’t you?
Well, that’s just what happens when we first believe and accept Jesus Christ as our Lord and Savior. Jesus promises to send us the Holy Spirit to be our advocate and teacher. The Holy Spirit opens our hearts to hear what God is saying through His Word. Each tiny word begins to sprout and our faith grows and grows. The Holy Spirit waters these sprouts and the more we read His Word, the more we grow.
Of course, this isn’t something we can do on our own. We must study the Word of God and let the Spirit do the rest. I pray you are spending time with the Lord each day. I pray your faith is growing exponentially through the power of the Holy Spirit. Have faith, my friends.
