At once they left their nets and followed him. This scene is repeated time and again. When Jesus said, “Follow Me,” the Disciples dropped everything and followed.
Do you realize what this means? They were leaving their livelihood. They were, for the most part, leaving their families. They were now working for Jesus. The followed Him everywhere for three years.
They made this sacrifice because they believed Jesus was the Messiah – the true Son of God. They were willing to give up everything to follow Him.
Do you remember the story of the rich young ruler? He wanted to know what he needed to do to inherit the Kingdom of Heaven. Apparently, he was a Jewish man of means. I’m sure he had been taught the Law of Moses and lived his life according to the law. When Jesus told him he must sell everything he owns and follow Him, the young man went away sad because he had so many possessions. (Mark 10:17-23)
Where do you fall in these stories? Are you willing to hear the call of Jesus and drop everything and follow Him? That is what He expects of us? Pray for the Lord to give you wisdom and courage to leave behind the things of the world and follow Him.
