“But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law.”
This is a very familiar scripture and I’m sure you have read it many times. But, have you ever noticed that it is not the “fruits” of the Spirit, but the fruit of the Spirit.
The Spirit imparts love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. When you accepted Jesus Christ as your Savior the Holy Spirit came to indwell you. These attributes are given to each of us but how do we use them?
So many times I let the world get the best of me. I lose these wonderful gifts because I don’t recall them and rely on them. I let myself lose my joy, peace, patience and mainly self-control. If we abide in Christ and He in us there is no reason not to be filled with joy and peace.
Jesus wants us to have all these things in our life. He wants us to be filled with all the goodness they afford. Think what a better place the world would be if everyone had the fruit of the Spirit and applied it to our life.
All these gifts stem from one thing: Jesus Christ. We strive to be like Him and live a life worthy of being His disciple. I think it is important that we memorize these attributes of the Spirit. When you memorize scripture you can call on it when the situation arises.
So, I ask you to read the scripture once again. Set out to memorizing these verses. It isn’t hard and doesn’t take much time. Your life will be richly blessed if you employ the gifts of the Spirit in every circumstance.
