REALLY? With all I had to do to get things ready for Thanksgiving and then before I can blink it will be Christmas, you want me to give thanks with a joyful heart? I don’t even have time to think straight. I don’t have the time or energy to pray and give thanks.
Unfortunately, we can let ourselves fall into this syndrome. The world has made everything so materialistic and frantic. Everything has to be perfect and bigger and better than last year. It is our own fault for falling for it. We let ourselves get sucked in with the rest of them.
We should be ashamed of ourselves. Remember that Jesus said foxes have dens and birds have nests but he had no place to lay his head. (Luke 9:58) Do you think He felt dismayed? Of course not. He knew what He was about and He was accomplishing His mission one day at a time. He even rebuked Martha for worrying about the wrong things. (Luke 10:40)
Do you think Jesus would approve of all this racing around we do over something so frivolous? We should give thanks each day for the bounteous gifts the Father has given us. 1 John 3:1 says, “See what great love the Father has lavished on us, that we should be called children of God! And that is what we are!” We are the children of God. Most of us live in America, the most abundant country in the world. We usually have more than we could ever want or need. We are blessed indeed. God bless America!
Make a list of the ten things you are most thankful for. Dwell on these. Pray and give God thanks for all His blessings. You are truly a blessed child of the Most High King. Give thanks with a joyful heart!
