Going to heaven is a question that haunts many people, even many Christians.
Pastor Jack Graham of Prestonwood Baptist Church in Plano, Texas once had an “on the street” survey done and asked the question: “Are you sure you are going to heaven?”. You would be shocked by the answers. They ranged from: “I do not believe in God or heaven or hell;” to “I hope I am.” Some said they lived a good life and hoped they were good enough to go to heaven.
We all know we are sinners and fall short of the glory of God. Paul tells us in Romans 3:10 “There is no one righteous, not even one.” We are constantly doing things we wish we hadn’t done.
But, is one sin greater than the other? Is murder worse than telling a lie? In God’s eyes a sin is a sin. We can’t obey all the laws of Moses. It is impossible for us to be “good enough” to go to heaven.
So, how can we be sure? This goes back to probably the first Bible verse you ever memorized – John 3:16
“For God so loved the world that He sent His only Son that whosoever believes in Him will have eternal life.”
God didn’t say those who keep the law or obey the commandments will have eternal life. No, He said “whosoever”. That is everyone. If you truly accept Jesus Christ as your Savior you will spend eternity with Him in heaven.
If you haven’t asked Jesus to be the Lord or your life, I plead with you right now to pray and ask Him to fill you with His Holy Spirit and you will have no doubt about your eternity.
Jack Graham also says that he knows he is going to heaven and he wants to take as many people with him as he can.
