God does speak to His children. We just have to learn to listen with “open ears” – we need to know that He speaks to us and to listen. You don’t have to hear an audible voice to hear God. Sometimes He just places a thought in your mind but you know it is from Him.
John 10: 3-4 tells us, “To him, the doorkeeper opens, and the sheep hear His voice, and He calls His own sheep by name and leads them out. When He puts forth all his own, He goes ahead of them, and the sheep follow Him because they know His voice.”
Isn’t it thrilling to know that Jesus knows us and calls us by name? What a tragedy it would be to miss His calling us. I think one of Satan’s greatest ploys is to tell us that it wasn’t actually God you heard. You are just wishing to hear God. He is the father of all lies and he will do anything to keep us from knowing and loving God more.
I have been blessed to hear God’s voice. This is usually when I am in the “wilderness” and have been earnestly praying for His help. I’ve learned that you not only have to let your prayers and petitions be made known to God, but you need to listen for His response after you pray.
The next time you need to hear God’s voice of reassurance, try to clear your mind of anything but God after you pray. I think to myself, “Oh but a word from You, Oh Lord.” I give Him an opportunity to talk with me. Sometimes I hear Him so clearly that I am overwhelmed. He knows my name and I know His voice. Praise God.
