How many times do you go to church and come away feeling the same as when you went in? This can happen when we just go through the motions of worship and not truly worship God when you are there.
It is easy to just go in and sing the songs, listen to the message and have your mind somewhere else. We all have so much going on – so many things on our to-do list. We have problems and concerns that consume us. This is the time we need the Lord the most and yet we don’t engage.
God wants our total worship. Paul tells us in Romans 12:1:
“Therefore, I urge you, brothers and sisters, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God – this is your true and proper worship.”
Each Sunday I pray for God to prepare my heart for worship. I ask the Holy Spirit to set me on fire for the Lord and let me be transformed by His Word. If you do this, the service will become so amazing that you will be filled with the Holy Spirit.
This will prepare you for what is ahead. We all need a new in-dwelling of the Spirit. We need our faith to be increased and our hearts to be set right. We need to feel the presence of the Lord in the sanctuary and in our lives. We need to be renewed.
You could stay home and watch church on TV but it is not the same experience as corporate worship. We need to gather with the people of God and lift each other up.
I hope the next time you go to church you will pray this prayer, and ask God to fill you with the Holy Spirit. He wants our whole heart; a living sacrifice for Him. You will be blessed.
