There are times when we have done something so wrong we believe there is no way to make it right. At these times we are covered in shame and regret. We wish we could take it back and do it right this time. But it is never too late.
Peter has such a story. Christ was about to be arrested and crucified. Peter told Him he would lay down his life for Jesus.
John 13:38 Then Jesus answered, “Will you really lay down your life for me? I tell you the truth, before the rooster crows, you will disown me three times!”
I’m sure Peter thought this was incredulous. He loved the Lord and there was no way he would disown Him. He had just vowed to lay down his life for Him. We all know the story and Peter did, indeed, disown Christ three times. Then he heard the rooster crow and he wept bitterly.
I’m sure he thought Jesus could never forgive him for this. Jesus had already been crucified, dead and buried. But if you read further in John to Chapter 21 we see where Jesus appeared to the disciples and asks Peter three times if he loves Him. At this point, Jesus reinstated Peter and told him to feed His sheep.
I love this scripture. I read it when I had been in the wilderness for three years waiting for God to tell me how He wanted me to serve Him. With this scripture, God told me that He wants me to feed His sheep. I had been praying and searching the scriptures for three whole years with no Word from God. On that day, I knew this was His plan for me. I was so happy I literally danced around the room.
And it is never too late for you. Ask God what he wants of you. Praise God.
