Several scriptures in the Bible tell us not to be judging others. It is not our place. God alone is qualified to judge. Only He can see the true heart. He has “walked a mile in their shoes”.
Jesus tells us in Matthew 7:1-2
“Do not judge, or you too will be judged. 2 For in the same way you judge others, you will be judged, and with the measure you use, it will be measured to you.”
That is pretty scary for me. I find myself harshly judging others all the time. I don’t think I think I am better than they are, but I’m sure in God’s eyes it seems so. How can I know what is in their heart as God does? How can I know if they are justified in their actions? I can’t – plain and simple.
Matthew 7 continues to say: 3 “Why do you look at the speck of sawdust in your brother’s eye and pay no attention to the plank in your own eye? 4 How can you say to your brother, ‘Let me take the speck out of your eye,’ when all the time there is a plank in your own eye? 5 You hypocrite, first take the plank out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly to remove the speck from your brother’s eye.”
Blinded by your own sins?
I am blinded by my own sins. When I judge I am truly a hypocrite. I pray and ask the Holy Spirit to keep me from doing this and yet I continue. I am truly ashamed of myself.
James 2: 13b tells us that “Mercy triumphs over judgement.”
I am going to continue to pray for mercy for me and for whomever I think I should judge. I hope you will do the same.
