The word “peace” is mentioned 400 times in the King James Version of the Bible. When the angel appeared to Mary he said, “Peace be with you”. When Jesus appeared to the disciples after his resurrection He said, “Peace be with you.” Why do you suppose the words “peace be with you” are mentioned so many times?
Think about it. What is better than peace? We all pray for peace in the world, in our families and in our lives. Peace is the greatest gift Jesus has given us aside from our salvation.
There are so many people in this world who seem to have it all. We are enamored by the rich and famous. They have outrageous homes, cars, clothes and jewelry. They have people flocking around them wanting to be their friends. Remember Bogie and Bacall? “They had it all.”
Why do so many people turn to drugs and alcohol for peace? They seem to have it all but there is one very important component missing. Only if you have Christ in your life will you have true peace.
I love the scripture in John 14:27 where Jesus says, “Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.”
Jesus gives the peace that passes all understanding. When you get a bad report from your doctor, if you lose your loved one or the world seems crashing down around you, remember these words of Jesus and be filled with His peace. His peace is the only true peace and He has given it to us. Praise God!
