I’m sure you know that God hates pride. Why do you think that is? When we are prideful we place ourselves in the place of God. We want to sit on the throne of our own life.
An example would be if someone really hurts you and you naturally become hurt and most of the time spiteful. This is what pride is. Vengeance is mine, says the Lord. We are not to take things into our own hands to right the wrong. God is in control and will take care of all the hurtful things in our life.
Jesus tells us to “Love our enemies”. He even says, “Turn the other cheek”. We let our pride take over and we want to be sure that whoever hurt us knows it and pays for it.
In the story of the rich young ruler who came to Jesus asking what must I do to gain eternal life? Jesus answered that he should follow the commandments. In Matthew 19:20: “All these I have kept,” the young man said. What do I still lack?”
Do you see the pride here? We may go through life thinking we are living a good life and that is all we must do to gain eternal life.
We gain eternal life only through the blood of Jesus Christ. He loves us so much He died for us. He says they will know we are Christians by our love.
God wants us to love one another no matter the circumstance. When he says “another” He means EVERYONE! This isn’t a suggestion, it is a command!
The next time someone hurts you, think of the love and forgiveness Jesus has for you. Don’t let your pride take control. Go to the Lord in prayer for His peace and trust that He will provide!
