I never spent much time reading the book of Proverbs. It just seemed to be repetition. But, the Proverbs are words of wisdom from Solomon. He was David’s son to whom God gave one wish as he was about to inherit the Kingdom of Israel as its king. Solomon asked for wisdom. We read this in 2 Chronicles 1:11-12:
‘God said to Solomon, “Since this is your heart’s desire and you have not asked for wealth, possessions or honor, nor for the death of your enemies, and since you have not asked for a long life but for wisdom and knowledge to govern my people over whom I have made you king, therefore wisdom and knowledge will be given you. And I will also give you wealth, possessions and honor, such as no king who was before you ever had and none after you will have.”
I have begun to read a chapter in Proverbs each day it has opened my eyes to the heart of God. These words are beyond any knowledge we can gain from any other source.
We are spending the week with Christian friends at the Hyatt Hill Country. Their children and grandchildren are with us. As we discussed our faith, one of the daughters told me that every night when she rocks her 10-month-old baby to sleep her husband reads scriptures from the Children’s Bible aloud to them. I think this is the sweetest thing I’ve ever heard. What a blessing.
Proverbs 22: 6 tells us: “Start children off on the way they should go, and even when they are old they will not turn from it.”
I sincerely hope that you will read from Proverbs each day. Wouldn’t you like to learn wisdom from the one to whom God gave wisdom? You will be surprised at the things you learn.
