Happy New Year to each and every one of you! The idea of a New Year is exciting to me. I can’t wait to see what God has in store for us all. While we all look ahead in the New Year we should also take time to remember.
As my husband, Dennis, and I were flying back from Atlanta recently, I decided to take out the in-flight magazine because I wanted to pass the time. There was an article in there about writing a letter to someone who had made a huge impact in your life.
The article continued with specifics but I thought, what a wonderful idea. We all have people in our lives who have impacted us greatly. Some were teachers, friends, spouses, pastors and the list can go on and on. We have lost touch with many of these people and some have gone on to Heaven. What a shame we never tell these people how much their mentoring and relationship have meant to us.
I think this is one New Year’s resolution we can all make and KEEP. It would be so easy, especially in this age of technology. It would be nice if you actually wrote a letter of appreciation, placed it in an envelope and dropped it in the mail. However, as a last resort, an email will suffice.
Write a letter to someone who has had a tremendous influence on your life. Let them know how grateful you are and be as personal as you feel comfortable. If they are no longer with us, write to a spouse, child or friend telling them how special this person was to you. The recipient will be delighted beyond our imagination. What a joyful way to begin the New Year.
We need to share our love and peace on earth and 2017 will be a more Christ-like year. Jesus tells us to love one another. Let’s show that love every day in every way.
