Have you ever read the story of Job? Oh my goodness, it seems that he endured more than anyone could bear. He was a wealthy man with a wonderful family and very good friends. Everything seemed to be going great for him. Then he lost everything – everything but his faith. He suffered more than I can imagine and yet he never turned his back on God. He knew God would deliver him. He knew the peace of Christ.
His friends came to counsel him and gave him all kinds of terrible advice. His own wife even told him “to curse God and die.” Things were that bad.
I’ve know people who have endured such tragedies that I don’t know how they can go on. I just received a prayer request for a family who lost one child to cancer and their four year old just drowned. How can they bear this?
There is only one way we can endure the tragedies of life. Jesus tells us that He gives us peace, not as the world gives but His peace. The peace of Christ is the most amazing peace. It isn’t just being carefree but it is peace down deep in your soul.
When our 21 year old nephew went home to be with the Lord after a three year battle with cancer, his mother told me that she now knows what it means to have the peace of Christ.
Jesus is always there when our heart is broken. I pray you know Him and His peace. I pray you are filled with His Spirit which brings joy in the midst of tribulation.
Spend time with Him. You will come to know Him more and more each time you study His Word and pray. We must have Him in our life and we must know Him as our Friend and Savior.
